What I’ve been up to.. American Museum in Bath Fair this weekend

What I’ve been up to.. American Museum in Bath Fair this weekend

I seem to have been rather busy of late which hasn’t left me much time for anything  – let alone writing blog posts 🙁  The good news is that although I am still busy I think it is back at a more enjoyable, manageable level and there is time for the little things in life, such as blogging and baking again! This weekend I am exhibiting my jewellery and gift items at the American Museum in Britain, Claverton Manor, Bath. There is a free shuttle service from the centre of Bath and you can find details here  Here’s a few of the...

Plenty of polymer fun at Polydays 2013!

Plenty of polymer fun at Polydays 2013!

I was lucky enough to attend Polydays a brilliant 3 days of polymer clay workshops in the beautiful Cotswolds organised by Alison Gallant just over a week ago. It was a wonderful weekend full of polymer clay, good food and good company. The teachers were all fantastic and taught us a wide range of skills. We were lucky to have polymer clay provided by both Polyform and Decoman for the workshops – thank you both! On the first day we had a Rainbow Ikat Leaves workshop with Lindley Haunani. Polyform provided a rainbow of Premo for the...

Photographing Fine Art & Craft Course Reviewed in The Polymer Arts Magazine

Photographing Fine Art & Craft Course Reviewed in The Polymer Arts Magazine

Earlier this year I took part  Brit Hammers excellent Photographing Fine Art and Craft Guided Study Course. I have mentioned the course in some of my other blog posts this year and hopefully, especially  if you have been following my blog for a while, you will noticed the improvement in my photographs!  It was a very intense and very rewarding experience which I have reviewed in detail in an article published recently in the Fall issue of The Polymer Arts. As always it’s a fabulous magazine packed full of useful information and...

Delft Inspired Bracelet – Free tutorial on the Premo! Sculpey website

Delft Inspired Bracelet – Free tutorial on the Premo! Sculpey website

I wrote a tutorial for Premo!Sculpey and it was on their website, unfortunately now there is only the materials list. You can however find the tutorial on my website here. There are step by step instructions which show you how to make the cane and then the beads and also these cute little tile earrings. Even if you aren’t interested in making them yourself you might find it an interesting insight into my creative process. If you do have a go at making them I’d love to see some pictures to see how you get on! Thank you to Polyform...

Cardboard hollow forms, pens and translucent Pardo…

Cardboard hollow forms, pens and translucent Pardo…

I was very excited (as I am sure half the polymer clay community was!) this week when Polymer Clay Daily featured Artybecca’s Hollow paper forms. Rebecca kindly shared some templates on her blog and I couldn’t wait to try it out. The first couple of beads I covered with scrap clay, my intention to cover them with cane slices. Whilst trying to decide what kind of cane to decorate them with I was playing with the thought of  making some zentangle canes and started doodling. Then I had a sudden thought – the hollow forms are...

Testing Superglue -polymer brooch backs

Testing Superglue -polymer brooch backs

A fellow polymer clay artist was asking about glue for brooch backs the other day and it got me thinking. What happens to the superglue I use when the piece goes in the oven?  My normal procedure for adding a brooch back is to superglue it in place then cover it in a decorative layer of polymer clay and cure the piece again. Here’s a sample back   I use the super glue to hold it in place whilst I am working and I know the polymer clay covering the brooch bar will secure it but does the superglue survive the curing process? I had to...

A Highland Fling

A Highland Fling

I was lucky enough to be able to attend the wonderful Highland Fling Polymer Clay workshop that Melanie Muir hosted in Nairn last weekend. It was a luxurious 4 days of polymer clay play lead by the very talented Melanie West and Ronna Sarvas Weltman. They were both very generous teachers sharing lots of their tip and tricks. The rest of the group was made up of a very international group of clay addicts and we had a lot of fun! Melanie Muir was an excellent host and paid great attention to detail with delicious lunches and welcoming...

Paisley Cake Forks 2013 – using old canes.

Paisley Cake Forks 2013 – using old canes.

Way back in March 2010 I made a set of Paisley cake forks – it was the first time I had attempted such a big and complex cane. I had a lot of fun and learnt a lot and had a fair bit of the cane left over due to a miscalculation and lack of experience (blog post about making the cane here). Here’s the cane after reduction (blog post about that here) And here’s a picture of the cake forks I made in 2010 (blog post about making the cake forks here)     Earlier this year I was commissioned to make a pair of similar...

Breath of Gold Brooch

I’ve just realised I never did show you my Breath of Gold Brooch! There is a step by step tutorial of how to make your own published in the Wind Edition of ‘From Polymer to Art’ published in March 2013. I was recovering from Synergy when it was released which is how I forgot to show you! I have some beginners workshop in Bristol, UK this  month and a more advanced ‘little ball of flowers’ pendant workshop which will take place on Saturday 27th July in North Wales.  I am just sending details to people on my...
