About me

Cara Jane Hayman polymer clay artist and tutorMy name is Cara Jane Hayman and I live in Bristol UK. My first polymer clay work, at age 7, was a tea set for my dolls. I have enjoyed it as a casual hobby since then but over the last 15 years or so it has grown from a hobby to a real passion!

I come from a scientific background and worked as a research scientist so often I like to test things to see what happens. I try to share this information on my blog.

I also trained and worked as a primary school teacher for 12 years (before the polymer clay took over), this experience has helped me share my passion with others teaching workshops around the world.

I have been lucky enough to attend creative workshops with many of the world’s finest polymer clay artists, including Dan Cormier, Sarah Shriver, Donna Kato, Christine Dumont and Carol Blackburn which has fuelled my passion even further. I am having a great time exploring many of the endless possibilities polymer clay offers. You can follow me on my journey and find my tips, tutorials and polymer clay creations here on my website, on my Facebook page , Instagram,  my Flickr gallery and on my blog.

I started off with miniatures (for my dolls), then I spent a long time exploring canes and making jewellery. More recently I have been exploring using polymer clay for sculpture, often using canes to decorate them. I’ve always been fascinated by automata, so in 2024 I started exploring making automata too and am greatly enjoying a new challenge!

I’ve written articles for The Polymer Arts, From Polymer to Art , Beads and Beyond and Making Jewellery magazines and presented on Jewellery Maker TV.

I am a member of the British Polymer Clay Guild . I was the President of the British Polymer Clay Guild from February 2021 until September 2024 and have been a member of the London Polymer Clay Group and the International Polymer Clay Guild. I am the creative ambassador for Kato Polyclay Europe in the UK.
