Cara Jane Templates

Why buy Cara Jane templates? Instead of being all on one sheet each size is an individual template making them easier to use (especially if you work in chaos like me and end up with a small working area!). They also have guidelines engraved onto them which helps to align patterns and make repeated designs. You can keep them chained together as there is a hole in the corner of each template and you get the inside shape too if you prefer to cut around the outside than the inside.

Some customer testimonials about Cara Jane template sets –
”  Your templates are the best I’ve ever used! “
” The quality is outstanding!!”
”  I love the measuring lines on them.”

The templates are made from clear acrylic but they come with a protective coating to protect them in transit. You can leave this on but if you wish to remove it the best way is shown in this video here –

Please take care when removing the covering as they are built to be small and convenient to use rather than indestructible!

Cara Jane Oval Templates

I find the best way to use the template is with a thin needle tool. This is a thin sewing needle with a polymer handle. A thin needle produces less ‘drag’ – produces less crumbs of clay as it cuts and won’t damage the template. Making the needle quite short makes it easier to handle as it can’t bend. Practise first on some scrap clay to identify which needle you prefer!

It is often best to start ‘cutting’ in a patterned area on the side, occasionally there is a little mark where you start/finish the cut and it shows less on patterned clay than plain.

Cara Jane Individual Template in Use

There are vertical and horizontal guidelines to help you align patterns and make repeated designs. If you use the horizontal guides, for example, you can consistently have the join in the same place as in the oval above.

The set of templates comes with a small ball chain you can use to join them together to stop them getting lost. Personally most of the time I find it is easier to separate the templates when using them. The ball chain opens and closes by placing the end ball into the gap in the closure and then pulling it down into line with the closure.

Six separate graduated long oval shapes with a midline guide vertically to help you centre your pattern and 3 horizontal split guidelines. I tend to split them at the top but you can turn them the other way up and make the split at the bottom.

The largest oval is 9.5cm tall and the smallest is 4.5cm

The middle parts are also included so you can also cut around the outside if you prefer.
