Starting Sculpting with Polymer Clay
I hadn’t done much in the way of sculpture with polymer clay, except some small creatures made with my scraps (including the sleeping cats I have a tutorial for here) but during the Covid pandemic, I had a couple of opportunities to try out some sculpture workshops with some amazing artists and discovered I really enjoyed it!
In December 2020 the British Polymer Clay Guild hosted a zoom workshop with Karen Walker making winter hares. It was a great workshop! Here is my hare.
In 2021 I ran the Polymania event online which meant I actually got to take part in the workshops for once. I sculpted a cane-covered fish during the workshop with Adam Thomas Rees and really enjoyed combining canes with the sculptural form. It was an excellent workshop, a lot of work but I was really pleased with my result.
Having really enjoyed Adam’s workshop I then took a great online workshop with Deb Hart in June 2021 to make Cane inlaid animal sculptures. There is a lot of work involved in making these sculptures but I enjoy the process (well maybe not the sanding so much but it’s worth it when it’s done!). Here is my first finished bear.
I will share some more of my sculptures in my next blog post.
