Polymania UK 2018

3 day polymer clay workshop at the 4 star Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa, Redcliffe Hill, Bristol, BS1 6SQ, UK  on 16-18th  March 2018 (and possibly again on 20th-22nd March 2018 – see below)

The Ripple Effect – ‘Missoni’ patterns with Carol Blackburn

This one day workshop is inspired by the multi coloured fabrics designed by the Italian fashion house, Missoni.

Many of us have a ripple blade in our tool box but often it just sits there unused and its potential is not always seen.

So, in this workshop we will experiment with this interesting tool and how to arrange layered stacks of polymer from which to create ‘Missoni’ style, decorative veneers; no two will be the same. These veneers will be used to make a necklace of hollow free-form beads.

Hollow Beads Necklace workshop with Donna Kato

I love big jewelry, I don’t, however, appreciate the weight. So, in this class, we’ll make several hollow beads and round discs – pieced design, drilled, color re-placement, incised (we’ve carved before so we may not do this one but if need be, a full explanation will be covered) to create this piece. The clasp will also be made.

Translucent Layering Techniques by Kathleen Dustin

While making a brooch or a pendant, each student learns how to layer translucent polymer clay to produce a rich and beautiful depth of surface using polymer heat-set paints, simple canework, gold leaf and powder inclusions. Kathleen will guide students in making color and design decisions as they work with this involved technique.
(There won’t be enough time to include the wire extensions in your design, but Kathleen will demonstrate how they are done.)
