A Highland Fling
I was lucky enough to be able to attend the wonderful Highland Fling Polymer Clay workshop that Melanie Muir hosted in Nairn last weekend. It was a luxurious 4 days of polymer clay play lead by the very talented Melanie West and Ronna Sarvas Weltman. They were both very generous teachers sharing lots of their tip and tricks. The rest of the group was made up of a very international group of clay addicts and we had a lot of fun!
Melanie Muir was an excellent host and paid great attention to detail with delicious lunches and welcoming bagpipers.
It was a techniques class rather than a project based class so it was fascintating to see what everyone was up to with the techniques shown to us. Here’s some of what I made
I’m calling this a sculpture but it will probably become a large pendant. It’s large but it’s not heavy as it has a core of Sculpey Ultralight. I made this using the techniques Mel West shared with us.
Here’s a pendant I made using the techniques that Ronna Sarvas Weltman shared with us. I was in a blue mood as you can probably see 😉
Here I am with the wonderful tutors. Thank you again for sharing so much ladies and bringing your gorgeous jewellery to inspire us!
I got to wear the Sisterhood necklace. It was created and donated to the Synergy Auction by Melanie West. Carol Blackburn and Christi Friesen were the winning bidders and they are sending it around the world to help raise funds for the Sammunat ladies in Nepal. People make a donation to wear the necklace and have a photo taken. Being as Mel was there I decided to be cheeky and have her in the photo too 😉
I think we were all rather sad to say goodbye but we have some wonderful memories to cherish and some new skills to experiment with. I hope to see you all again soon fellow Flingers!
Wow, Cara Jane, if the claying weren’t enough, you were entertained with a piper? Awesome!
Beautiful work – love the sculpture. Looks like you had a fab time.
It was fun. I had to check to see when this all began for me. Great post Cara
a time ‘out of time’ loved it
Cara Jane, I have just discovered your blog and am enjoying it! Loved reading about the Highland Fling as I have a connection with the Samunnat ladies and can tell you they were EUPHORIC to get the donation generated by the Highland Fling. It looks wonderful and I am a little envious! Carol has kept us up to date with some of the travels. You look beautiful in it. Keep enjoying your wonderful creating. Hugs from Oz and Nepal, Wendy Moore
Hi Wendy Thanks for getting in touch! So glad the Samunnat ladies were pleased. It’s great to be able to help out. Thanks for your kind comments. Looking forward to meeting you in Matla Cara
